Evacuation Studies

Evacuation transportation studies are an evolving field. Hexagon has conducted numerous quantitative and qualitative analysis in this field in the greater Bay Area. Our team also keeps up-to-date with the latest studies and regulatory requirements in this field.

One key decision point is determining what emergency scenarios should be analyzed. Hexagon works collaboratively with our clients to design the emergency scenario parameters, borrowing local expertise especially from the police and fire departments.

While evacuation studies are required by state legislation, not all studies necessarily require a robust quantitative approach. We make sure our analysis scopes are right-sized for the job based on the needs and resources of the community.

We also take the extra time to ensure our results and recommendations make sense. Recommendations may include expansion of roadway capacity and connectivity, alternative evacuation routes, additional shelter locations, education programs, and the use of police officers to direct traffic at strategic locations.
