US 101 Auxiliary Lanes Project
This project, performed by Hexagon Staff, involved the development of a travel demand model that was validated specifically for the US 101 corridor between Willow Road and Third Avenue. This was accomplished by making enhancements to the San Mateo County travel demand. The purpose of creating this more specific model was to support the environmental document and freeway operational analysis for the US 101 Auxiliary Lanes Project that was programmed into the San Mateo County Strategic Plan Priority list of transportation projects. The main aspects of the model validation were to update land use data to the ABAG land use projections of 1996 instead of Projections ‘94 and to update the validation to a base year of 1995 instead of 1990. Traffic forecasts were generated for the years 2000, 2015, and 2020 baseline conditions versus the addition of auxiliary lanes between Whipple Avenue and Highway 92. The project was completed on schedule and within the budget.
