• Traffic Signal Design Experience

  As a complement to our other traffic engineering practice areas, Hexagon Transportation Consultants, Inc., offers a wide range of traffic engineering design services, including conceptual roadway layout, traffic signal design, signing and striping plans, and traffic detour plans. Hexagon staff can provide our clients a complete traffic engineering and improvement design service for projects that require the installation of new traffic signals or the modification of existing signal systems.
  
  Hexagon also provides support services for civil engineering firms with special traffic engineering-related design challenges. Our design work is conducted under the direction of both Registered Traffic Engineers and Registered Civil Engineers in the State of California.
  
  Hexagon staff has extensive experience in the design of intersection geometrics, traffic signing and pavement delineation as required to handle traffic and pedestrian demands with the highest degree of safety and efficiency, and traffic control/construction staging plans.  Hexagon’s designs are prepared using computer aided design software and conform to local, State, and Federal requirements, including the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
  
  Hexagon staff works directly with the presiding governmental agency maintaining frequent communication to insure that plan submittals are as complete as possible and are in conformance with design requirements. Traffic signal plans can be prepared AutoCAD and Microstation formats, as required by the presiding government agency.
  
  Hexagon staff has successfully completed more than 100 traffic signal/street light design projects for more than 26 public agencies and/or private clients. Our collective experience includes design of the signals themselves, management of contracts for signal design and construction, and the operation and maintenance of traffic signals in the field. This extent of our experience pays dividends to our clients by minimizing construction change orders, reducing energy demands and operating costs, and providing for convenient ongoing system maintenance.
  
  Hexagon staff has worked on a variety of traffic signal designs involving light rail traffic in the San Jose area on the Downtown San Jose Transit Mall, North First Street and Vasona Light Rail Corridors, and light rail extensions to East San Jose and Campbell.  From these experiences working with the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority we have gained an excellent understanding of the complexities and challenges associated with signal systems involving light rail traffic.
