Travel Demand Forecasting

Hexagon engineers have experience in all aspects of travel demand forecasting. These include up-front tasks like travel surveys and home-interview surveys, through model development, and concluding with traffic and patronage forecasts and various post-processor programs. Hexagon is experienced at using all major forecasting software: EMME/2, CUBE/VOYAGER, TransCAD, and TRANPLAN. We have worked with multimodal, state of the art travel forecasting models throughout the country. We have developed and applied forecasting models in both mainframe environments and PCs using UNIX, OS2, DOS, and Windows operating systems. In addition to traffic forecasts, we are experienced with transit ridership forecasting, select link and select zone analyses. Typical assignments where travel demand forecasting is used in transit (corridor) planning include the following:

• • Long-range transportation plans
  • Corridor studies to determine appropriate modes and sizing of facilities
  • Major Investment Studies to analyze trade-offs between different alternatives, including No-Project, TSM and transit alternatives
  •System Configuration Studies to analyze the optimal interlining of light rail lines on an integrated rail system
